
Hungary Student Scholarship 2024/2025
The Hungarian Government 2013 launched the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme for international students managed by Tempus Public Foundation.
The Hungarian Ministry of Education is willing the increase the total number of international students coming to Hungary every year.
Although the population of Hungary itself is not too big, As of today the Hunagry population is estimated to be 9.935 million. The government believes students’ experience after education can contribute to the economy.
Several universities in Hungary award the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship to international students only if they meet their requirements and needs.
Who is eligible for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship?
International students ( Most not citizens of Hungary)
Who is not eligible for the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship?
Hungarian citizens (including those with dual citizenships)
If you have taken part in the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program before and re-applying for studies in the same cycle of education (e.g. bachelor, master, doctoral)

How is the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship funded?
Tuition-free education, exemption from the payment of tuition fees.
Monthly salary for bachelor, master, and one-tier master level up to HUF 43 700 contributions to the living expenses, for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies,
Monthly salary for a Ph.D. level of about HUF 140 000 completely 12 months a year until the completion of studies.
HUF 40 000 for accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period.
Medical insurance and health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65 000 a year/per person
Scholarship Obligations
The scholarship holder is required to establish a student status with the education institution(university) involved in the admission or transfer decision and to maintain it for the duration of the scholarship payment period.
The scholarship holder shall conclude a contract with the host institution with the following mandatory content:
The scholarship holder is required to stay habitually in Hungary during the training period as
follows:
1. The scholarship holder’s continuous private stay outside Hungary may not exceed 10
working days per training period.
2. In case the intention to stay abroad for private purposes exceeds 10 working days but does
not reach 30 days within a semester, it is the host institution’s responsibility to authorize
the absence.
3. Abroad stays of more than 30 days per training period are subject to institutional
authorization, following Section 45 (2) c) of the Higher Education Act, and may only be allowed in cases of childbirth, or the event of an accident, illness, or other unexpected reason beyond the fault of the scholarship holder.
4. Scholarship holders with the status described in point da) shall be granted the scholarship and housing allowance again from the month of their return to Hungary.
5. During the training period, the scholarship holder is allowed to attend foreign conferences, internships, or other study visits related to shorter research, studies (continuous 14 days or less).
6. If the intended stay is for paragraph f) but within 15 days to 30 days, it may take place once in each semester, and the institution shall have the power to decide not to withdraw the support.

Termination and Suspension of the Scholarship
A student scholarship is automatically terminated if he/her have probably participated in the application process in bad faith, based on false eligibility, and as a result of institutional disciplinary or criminal proceedings against the scholarship holder, the scholarship student is expelled, and for this reason, the Public Foundation asks the host institution to terminate the scholarship status,
If the scholarship holder does not fulfill their obligation to participate in medical screenings, and their additional obligations set out in the healthcare protocol, or provides false information about the health screening protocol during the application period or their scholarship period.
The scholarship holder is deemed unfit, temporarily unfit for 2 semesters
in total, or fit only for online study during the obligatory medical examination or the (one-
time) re-examination.
The scholarship status is suspended during the period in which the scholarship holder is deemed temporarily unfit during the obligatory medical examination. Further details about the suspension of the scholarship status are included in the Implementation Guide.
